Psychological support: outreach sessions in communities continue

  • Two individuals stand outdoors side by side, both wearing white t-shirts with colorful Ukrainian text including “ІНКЛЮЗІЯ” and “ЕМІЛІЯ.” Each wears a blue lanyard with an ID badge. The person on the left has light green pants and white sandals; the one on the right wears dark blue pants and red shoes. They stand on a paved walkway flanked by trees, suggesting an event or gathering in a park-like setting that promotes inclusion.
  • Two people sit at a blue-covered table, engaged in a collaborative task involving handwritten notes and papers with grids. The table holds a pen, smartphone, and small eraser-like object. Both individuals focus on the papers, suggesting a tutoring session or teamwork activity in a cozy indoor setting. The backdrop includes a potted plant and sheer curtains, adding warmth to the scene.
  • Two individuals stand in front of a collapsed building with exposed interior walls, scattered bricks, wood, and debris. The roof is partially intact, while the rest of the structure appears severely damaged. The people observe the site, possibly assessing the damage or engaging in recovery efforts. Trees and vegetation appear in the background under a partly cloudy sky, suggesting a rural or suburban setting affected by destruction, possibly from a natural disaster or conflict.
  • Three people stand together outdoors near a wooden fence surrounded by greenery. One person, in a striped shirt and grey pants, observes while another in a blue dress holds a tablet or similar device. The third, dressed in a white t-shirt with a lanyard and denim shorts, also focuses on the screen. The interaction suggests collaboration or fieldwork, framed by trees and a bright sky in a peaceful, rural setting.

As part of the project ‘Restoring Lives and Expanding Service Opportunities in War-Affected Ukraine,’ the team of the Luhansk Association of Organisations of Persons with Disabilities continues its working visits to communities in the Donetsk and Kharkiv regions. The project is being implemented in partnership with Solidar Suisse Ukraine with the support of Swiss Solidarity.

This time, the focus is on psychological support for residents. Qualified psychologists travelled to the communities and conducted individual and group sessions. The main topics were first psychological aid, self-help skills and self-regulation in stressful situations.

During the sessions, participants:

  • learned breathing techniques to stabilise their emotional state;
  • mastered exercises to reduce anxiety and tension;
  • gained access to tools for self-regulation in crisis situations.

Community members actively participated in the work and shared their own stories. Such support is an important part of the recovery process — not only physical, but also internal.

The LAOPD team thanks the communities for their trust and openness to change. The work continues — together with the people for whom this knowledge becomes a support in difficult times.
