  • A group of eight people pose in front of a large decorative sign featuring a red heart and bold white letters, located in an outdoor public park or garden. One person sits in a wheelchair while others stand beside them, forming a unified and cheerful group. The background includes green trees and flower planters arranged along the paved path, all under sunny weather. The setting conveys a warm, inclusive moment in a natural, communal space.
  • A group of seven people gathered outdoors on a paved area, engaged in conversation. One person is seated in a wheelchair, while the others stand around them. The background includes lush green trees, and the foreground features raised flower beds with purple blooms. The scene conveys a sense of community, discussion, and inclusion in a natural public space.
  • A meeting room with pink walls and traditional Ukrainian decor. Four people are seated around a circular table, engaged in conversation. The room features blue plaques on the left wall displaying the national emblem and flag of Ukraine, along with other informational symbols. A table beneath the plaques holds plants and floral arrangements. On the right side, three upright Ukrainian flags stand beside a large emblem reading "Олександрівщина Україна" (Oleksandrivshchyna Ukraine). The room includes a desk with flowers, papers, and supplies, and a wide window with sheer curtains. The ceiling has recessed lighting. The overall atmosphere suggests a local government or community gathering.
  • Three individuals sit at a table in front of a wall with two banners representing units of the Ukrainian Marine Corps. The banner on the right features a black background with an image of a badger and the text “503” and “ALWAYS FAITHFUL Ukrainian Marine Corps.” The banner on the left has a blue background with the number “38” and the phrase “Victory Loves the Faithful 38th Marine Brigade.” The individuals wear casual clothing and two have lanyards, suggesting participation in a formal discussion, briefing, or meeting.

The team at the Luhansk Association of Organisations of Persons with Disabilities has begun a new phase of practical implementation of the project ‘Restoring Lives and Expanding Service Opportunities in War-Affected Ukraine.’ Following the successful experience of previous initiatives, the first phase of targeted interventions is now underway in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions.

What is already happening:

  • Housing repairs: minor and medium repairs are being carried out on houses and apartments — strengthening walls, replacing windows, repairing roofs.
  • Physical accessibility: solutions are being implemented to create accessible spaces — ramps, adaptation of entrances, internal re-planning.
  • Emergency assistance: financial support is provided for the purchase of solid fuel (firewood) and basic protective equipment.

Psychosocial support:

Along with material restoration, individual and group consultations with psychologists have begun. This makes it possible to work not only with the destruction of homes, but also with the consequences of internal losses.

Cooperation with communities:

During the initial meetings in the communities, the LAOPD team discussed priority needs, agreed on response algorithms, and identified points of shared responsibility. Transparent processes, clear agreements, and a focus on human dignity are the basis of this cooperation.

With proven tools and a professional team, LAOPD is ready to scale up its previous results. The work is not being done for the sake of reports, but for the sake of real change, which is already being felt in communities.
