The LAOOI team held the first information sessions with residents of collective centers in the Kharkiv region that have been selected for renovation.

We met with the residents to explain in detail exactly what work would be done at their place of residence, what assistance is available through the project, and how to contact our specialists.
We specifically discussed the planned renovations. This involves more than just refurbishing the premises; it is about creating safer and more accessible conditions. This includes renovating restrooms, entrances, corridors, and entryways; widening doorways; and installing accessible plumbing fixtures, handrails, mirrors, non-slip flooring, and other accessibility features.
However, renovation is just one component of the project.
During the information sessions, residents learned about the legal, psychological, and social support available to them, the process for assessing individual needs, and where to turn for help. We also discussed partner services, safe interaction, the rights of aid recipients, and the procedures for providing feedback or filing a complaint.
And, of course, there was plenty of conversation. An information session is not a lecture for residents but a dialogue—an opportunity to ask questions, share their needs, and speak directly with the team’s specialists.
More meetings and the start of renovation work lie ahead. Yet, our mission extends far beyond simply refurbishing a few spaces. We want to ensure that, alongside physical improvements, people gain access to the help, support, and services they need. The project "Inclusive Accommodation and Protection for Vulnerable IDPs in Kharkiv Oblast" is being implemented by the Public Union "LAOOI" with the support of the International Rescue Committee (IRC).
