Innovative flagship rehabilitation initiatives for war victims presented
The All-Ukrainian Conference on the Development of Rehabilitation in Ukraine was held in Kyiv, where two flagship initiatives in the rehabilitation services system were presented. The event was joined by the team of our Union, which implemented the project “Capacity Building of Pilot Healthcare Facilities to Provide Rehabilitation Services to War Veterans and Their Families”.
The conference presented cutting-edge research on the system of rehabilitation services for people who have been injured or disabled as a result of war. The research includes the results of a national survey, focus group discussions, and interviews with people undergoing rehabilitation.
One of the main objectives of the conference was to discuss the current state of the rehabilitation system in Ukraine, the challenges faced by the rehabilitation system, and to present the successes achieved. The conference also outlined key areas for the development of the rehabilitation sector in the coming years and presented cutting-edge research on the system of rehabilitation services for people who have been injured or disabled as a result of the war. The research includes the results of a national survey, focus group discussions, and interviews with people undergoing rehabilitation.
The national survey was conducted by a team of sociologists from the LAOPD NGO, who for several months conducted a comprehensive study of the needs and problems of providing rehabilitation services in six health care facilities included in the system of rehabilitation care on rehabilitation routes, which are geographically located in three regions of Ukraine: Lviv, Dnipro and Sumy. The study was aimed at analyzing the problems and identifying the needs of healthcare facilities providing rehabilitation services to people who sustained injuries and disorders as a result of the war. Its main goal was to determine the current level of capacity of these institutions to provide quality rehabilitation services, identify opportunities for developing their capacity, taking into account internal and external constraints, and identify key problems faced by people in need of rehabilitation.
Some aspects of the study are included in the general presentation made at the event.
The project “Capacity Building of Pilot Healthcare Facilities to Provide Rehabilitation Services to War Veterans and Their Families” is implemented by the Luhansk Association of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities with the assistance of UNDP within the framework of the project “Support for the Rehabilitation of People with War-Related Disabilities” with financial support from the governments of the Republic of Korea and Germany.
