LAOI improves living conditions for people with disabilities in Kharkiv region

  • A collage of three photos shows a before-and-after comparison of ramp installation. The top-left image features a basic wooden ramp made of two narrow planks without handrails or weather protection. The right and bottom images display a newly built, enclosed ramp with a metal roof, transparent side panels, a wide walking surface, and safety handrails. The visuals highlight a significant improvement in accessibility and safety for individuals with mobility impairments.
  • A “Before / After” comparison shows a bathroom renovation. The left side features an old setup with a bathtub, exposed plumbing, a small sink, and worn tiles. The right side displays a modern bathroom with a shower area, new sink with cabinet, water heater, and updated wall and floor tiling. The scene highlights improved hygiene and accessibility conditions.
  • A “Before / After” comparison shows the renovation of a wheelchair ramp at the entrance of a brick building. On the left, a basic wooden ramp with uneven planks is shown with a wheelchair nearby. On the right, a new metal ramp features a non-slip surface and handrails on both sides. The scene highlights improved accessibility and safety for individuals with mobility impairments.

On the right are two images of the renovated space: one shows a washing machine and water heater against marble-patterned tiles; the other reveals a spacious walk-in shower, new sink with cabinet, toilet, and mirrored cabinet. The scene highlights improved hygiene, functionality, and accessibility.
  • A “Before / After” comparison shows a bathroom renovation. On the left is an old bathroom with yellow fixtures, a plastic basin, a bucket, and stained tiles, giving a cluttered and unsanitary appearance. On the right is a modern bathroom with a white toilet, sink, water heater, shower area with curtain, and a wall-mounted rack for toiletries. The space is clean, well-lit, and organized. The scene highlights improvements in hygiene, functionality, and accessibility.

The public association ‘Luhansk Association of Organisations of Persons with Disabilities’ continues its work to improve the living conditions of persons with disabilities in the Kharkiv region. This time, the measures are being implemented in the Chuhuiv district — in the Pechenizka and Chuhuiv communities.

In partnership with Solidar Suisse Ukraine, we are implementing a support programme for persons with disabilities of groups I and II, aimed at creating a safe, accessible and dignified living space.

The project includes:

  • installation of ramps, handrails and railings;
  • fitting of adapted showers and bathrooms;
  • repair and modernisation of living conditions;
  • removal of barriers that complicate everyday life.

Our goal is not just to improve infrastructure, but to give people with disabilities more independence, safety and respect for their needs.

We are grateful to Solidar Suisse Ukraine, local authorities and all partners involved in the implementation of the programme.

Together, we are building communities where accessibility is the norm and everyone has the right to a comfortable and quality life.
