Lviv: even in the heat, we are working on accessibility

  • Two individuals pose with thumbs-up gestures next to a wall featuring a poster in Ukrainian. The poster announces upcoming renovations to improve accessibility, stating: "Soon this entrance will become convenient for everyone. Reconstruction supported by MOZHESH." One person is seated in a wheelchair, while the other stands beside them, both expressing enthusiasm for the initiative. The background includes a paved surface and part of a building.
  • A group of people walking together on a sidewalk in an urban setting. Among them is a person in a wheelchair, while others carry bags, a rolled-up paper, and a smartphone. The background features buildings with balconies, a Ukrainian flag, and trees lining the street. The scene appears to capture a casual walk or group outing on a sunny day.
  • A group of seven people walking together on a paved path in an outdoor setting. One person in a wheelchair is wearing a white shirt and dark pants, while another individual, dressed in camouflage pants and a green shirt, pushes the wheelchair. Other participants are dressed casually, with one carrying a bag and another holding a colorful blanket. The background features a building with multiple windows, trees, and a grassy area, suggesting a park or public space.
  • Four people standing in front of a door, one of whom is seated in a wheelchair and holding the door handle. The door has multiple signs in Ukrainian, including a blue plaque that reads: "Ministry of Health of Ukraine State Scientific and Practical Center for Health Protection." There are additional notices on the door, one of which states: "Attention! Consumer Corner (Ukraine's Law on Consumer Rights Protection)." Another yellow sign reads: "An accessible space is being created here. The project is implemented thanks to MOZHESH." To the right of the door, a green ATM machine is visible with a bank logo. The setting suggests efforts to create accessibility for individuals with disabilities.

Despite the heat, the team of the Luhansk Association of Organisations of Persons with Disabilities continues to work on creating an accessible environment. This time, experts joined in surveying the premises of a military hospital in Lviv.

The team included architect Daria Roshchuk, as well as specialists Serhiy and Artem, who are engaged in the analysis of physical accessibility. The participation of Ostap Nesterovsky and Georgy Galas, blind guides at the Museum of Darkness ‘Third After Midnight,’ was particularly valuable, as they checked the convenience of the space from the point of view of orientation for blind people.

The survey was organised by the Lviv City Council, district administrations, and the Lviv Regional Military Administration. Such checks are an important part of the systematic work on creating a barrier-free space, especially in medical facilities, where accessibility is critical.
